The ultimate teamwork

Last Friday Elsa came from Germany to stay over for two nights with her gorgeous Eskil. We were very curious about how Elska and Eskil would interact. Would Eskil want to mate Elska again? Well, they looked like a cute couple. They were happy to see each other again, Eskil was not trying to mate with Elska. It was very cute to see that Eskil was bringing Elska toys and food, he took good care of her!
He was not only taking care of Elska, he was also playing with Ylfa a lot. They both like rolling on the couch, play a little bit rough, pulling on toys and running through the livingroom or garden.

The dogs were so nice inside, but the highlight of the day was sheepherding. Elska stayed at home, so I took Ylfa to show how to sheepherd with an Icelandic Sheepdog. Afterwards it was Eskil’s turn. We decided I was going with Eskil first, so that Elsa could watch to see how she can work with him. Eskil did really great!! He had good balance just like Elska, he only needed a little bit of guidance, we are so proud of him!!

After het succesful training with Eskil, it was Elke’s turn. First she went with Stjarna, who was not entirely sure about if she was allowed to bark at the sheep. When she was more confident she learned really quick! Than it was Vanadís turn, who is a natural talent. She’s from Iceland and deffinitely knows what to do: nice balance, very alert, focust and easily to guide. Lost but not least Smilla, at 10 years of age still alert, focust and energetic behind the sheep!

It was not only an entertaining day, also very succesful with sheepherding. It’s nice to see Icelandic Sheepdogs that have the natural instinct for sheepherding and like to work with their owners. We hope to get more people enthousiastic about sheepherding and willing to try some time. We also hope to breed puppies with good sheepherding instincts and good workabilities, so that they can enjoy this beautiful work where it’s all about teamwork and instincts.
